something for me!

for those who know me.  i can be kinda weird with my fashion.  i don't like when people touch my hair (its the dang curls getting frizzy), my jeans have to cover my socks when i sit, i don't like my jeans skin tight, i cant stand turtle necks or high necks, i cant mix blacks/grays with browns/tans, and black and navy reminds me of ffa so i don't do that one either.  the hardest one for me though is having my sleeves hit my knuckles.  really i have to have my sleeves that long.  maybe its cause i have cold hands.  and boy was i a happy camper when i found out about thumb holes in shirts and coats!!!
i had been looking for a casual cardigan that i could wear with t-shirts that would still be warm enough for me.  (did i mention that i am always cold)  i wasn't having any luck til i ran across this pattern from mouse house creations it was just what i was looking for!  so i ordered it, printed and ran with it.  i did the double hem for the collar, but so that it wasn't so big and bulky with all that warm fleece i used a knit on the inside.  you can see on the collar it is just a tad darker.

for the sleeves, i made them just a bit longer and tapered them a bit more than the pattern (though it does say to do so if you want)  i ended up cutting out the cuffs for sleeves 3 times.  i had to get the right size and get the thumb hole just right!  i am SO happy with how my cardigan turned out.  I love it.  the sleeves are long enough, i made thumb holes and its warm.

1, 2, 3 little mermaids

e was very into mermaids last summer.  so into them in fact, we had to have a golden pink princess mermaid birthday party (sharing a party with big princess sis who turned 20 on the 20th)  i had wanted to get these mermaid dolls done then but life happened.

i think part of the slow process was that i wanted to make a doll and then a mermaid skirt.  but turns out the girls didnt want legs.  if only i would learn to ask, it would save me headache & time.  e wanted her mermaid green.

p wanted hers with the multi colored minky fleece.  i dont recommend trying to make your mermaid from this.  it just wasnt as much fun as regular fleece.

and since t couldnt really tell me she got the next girly fleece scrap that i had left.  i embroidered each girls eye color.  (it was hard to get p's dark green and e's hazel)

i love how the hair turned out.  i used 4 different yarns and some silver ribbon that i had left over from another project.  the different colors and textures make it seem like they are underwater, hair moving with the currents of the ocean.

wipes of fun

t loves to pull things out and put them back in.  well maybe sometimes, just pull things out.  if you don't know where she is, look for the trail of items laying where they aren't supposed to be.
a while ago, i saw where scraps of fabric were cut to fit in an old wipe box for babies to play their in and out game with.  just so happens that i had an extra wipe box laying around.  i cut my scraps to a double layer of 7x9".  well not the fleece one, that doesn't fray and both sides are the same.  did a zig-zag around the sides (this was a quick project, you could cut the scraps bigger, sew them inside out & turn to make them look nicer)
t loves them.  not sure if she has a favorite scrap, but they have also been put in other items....a water pitcher she got out of the cabinet. and now she has leaned to open the whole box, so its also fun to put the fabric in and then dump it all out.

doll diaper bag

this was SUPER fun to make!!!  my friend asked me to make her 2 year old daughter a doll diaper bag & accessories for christmas.  but when her mother in law saw it, she also wanted one for her grand daughter.  we decided on the bag, a matching changing pad backed with minky, 2 burp cloths backed in minky, 2 bibs, 3 flannel diapers and a wipe case with fleece wipes.  and there is plenty of room left for a little girl to add a blanket, some bottles and anything else she would to put in her very own diaper bag.

Infant car seat covers

These are MADE for a Nebraska winter. Snow, WIND, COLD!!! Elastic base holds the fleece base to the car seat, while the top flap folds over and is pulled tight with a triple stitched cord and so that all wind can be kept out. Baby stays cozy and warm. Head hole works from newborn to 1 year old with a 14" zipper so that you can leave the cover on to get baby in and out of car seat. I dont keep these on hand so please email me if you want one. Having a spring baby? Try flannel for the warmer windy days.

Let's play ball

What little boy (kid for that matter) doesn't like to play ball especially football? Just the right size for little hands to throw and catch. So nice and soft kids don't even realize they got hit with a ball. (easy on your breakables too)

a zizzle being loved

My kids LOVE their zizzles. I bet you guys are wondering where in the world I got that name? zizzle??? When I was little I sucked my thumb but ONLY if I had the satin blanket binding to rub between my fingers. Mom says that I named that blanket binding zizzle and it stuck. That is always been called at our house. Now any ribbon that makes the same feeling is a zizzle ribbon. Try it, the feeling is kinda relaxing. (at least to me)
