swaddle wrap

a mom friend came to me with a request.  she had bought a sleep sack that had an attachable swaddle wrap.  the wrap was great, but she wanted to be able to use the wrap past the size of the sleep sack.  she had another lady make a different wrap, but the inside band was a bit small.  she also liked how the sleep sack swaddler had loop fabric not just strips.
the hardest part was finding the loop fabric.  while i did find some it wasn't quite what i had in mind.  its stiffer than the original, but i just haven't had any luck finding that is nice and soft and drapey.  but mom thought it would be okay.

i think that i made this one just the right size.  small enough for a  1/2 month old, but big enough for a 6/7 month old baby.  just wrap the inside band around baby's chest.

tuck arms in and wrap the outside around securing with the velcro.  i made mine with a layer of flannel and cotton.  its not meant to be super warm.  its meant to keep baby wrapped up tight so they don't startle themselves awake and sleep better.  but it would be easy to make it warmer.

i am looking for input and feed back.  should i make these a permanent item for sale?  what should i change?  the 1st two moms to contact me will get a swaddler for $20 in exchange for honest feedback.  i don't have a baby anymore to test it out on (hence the doll in the photo)

baby for my niece

i finished this project a while ago (almost a month, but i have been SUPER busy-more on that next time) i had made this doll for t's 1st birthday.  and is was fast approaching h's 1st birthday.  i think the hardest part on this doll was getting the right blue for her eyes.  those are some pretty piercing blue eyes.  and i got the dress along with the skirt made for her baby.  (which i am told they named penny)  enjoy your baby my little h!

wipes of fun

t loves to pull things out and put them back in.  well maybe sometimes, just pull things out.  if you don't know where she is, look for the trail of items laying where they aren't supposed to be.
a while ago, i saw where scraps of fabric were cut to fit in an old wipe box for babies to play their in and out game with.  just so happens that i had an extra wipe box laying around.  i cut my scraps to a double layer of 7x9".  well not the fleece one, that doesn't fray and both sides are the same.  did a zig-zag around the sides (this was a quick project, you could cut the scraps bigger, sew them inside out & turn to make them look nicer)
t loves them.  not sure if she has a favorite scrap, but they have also been put in other items....a water pitcher she got out of the cabinet. and now she has leaned to open the whole box, so its also fun to put the fabric in and then dump it all out.

doll diaper bag

this was SUPER fun to make!!!  my friend asked me to make her 2 year old daughter a doll diaper bag & accessories for christmas.  but when her mother in law saw it, she also wanted one for her grand daughter.  we decided on the bag, a matching changing pad backed with minky, 2 burp cloths backed in minky, 2 bibs, 3 flannel diapers and a wipe case with fleece wipes.  and there is plenty of room left for a little girl to add a blanket, some bottles and anything else she would to put in her very own diaper bag.

happy baby shower lil' j

we had my sister's baby shower at our house over the weekend.  while its nice to have a reason to 'really' clean the house, it kinda sucks actually doing all the work.  anyway, thought i would show some of the decor that we had for lil' j.  my wonderful sister in law made these great felt and button flowers.  we mixed them with fresh flowers in old mason jars with buttons in the bottom.  they were so cute and my girls got to keep some.  i got the BIG buttons from cold creek brewing on etsy.  i did a dry brush technique to antique them a bit.  not sure where my sister in law got the 'cute as a button' banner, some where off etsy though.  and we then hung up onesies in the back.  it was a great day with lots of good brunch food and lil' j got lots of good stuff.

new bathroom decor

so i know i have been really bad lately on this.  its just the normal excuses busy summer, school stuff. but i was reminded that i needed to update this so here is something we have done lately...i like pintrest (well maybe love) and saw a cute idea on there and ran with it to make it my own.  the kids all love to paint so i got them paint & gave them the low down-paint what you want and when its dry we'll put your hand prints on there, cause mom wants to hang these in the bathroom.  they had fun (as you can see) and i love how they are all different.
now if you look close there is one without a hand print. and there is a reason for it....aaron & i are expecting the end of march!!!  so i painted that one and when the baby arrives, i'll get monkey's print on there.

scraps & next show

so i am kind of a horder when it comes to cool fabric that i have used in the past. i dont like to part with it. so...i keep it. i really love it when i get to use those scraps for something cool. these are scraps that from all the flannel blankets that i make. a friend is having a benefit for her dad & asked me to donate. gave me a good reason to use up scraps & it was fun. cant wait to use up more for aonther baby quilt like this.

next show-saturday april 6 millard west (176th & q) from 9-4. i have been sewing like crazy so i have a great selection. my mother in law will also be there with her sewing-serindipity clothes (http://www.etsy.com/shop/SerendipityClothes). we'll be in wild cat 1 (1st gym) but please remember there are 2 gyms-there are lots of great crafters there. hope to see everyone there.

nursing covers

i have been busy in the basement again.  my latest projects-hooter hiders.  while these are not a new item for me, i don't think i have posted anything about them before.  they are about 26" x 41" with a 4" d ring strap and 32" adjustable strap, so you can make it fit your body and baby cant pull the cover off.  sewn between the straps is a 16" piece of boning that gives you clear view of what baby is doing.  this would also work great for a pumping mom (come on you know how silly you look)

soothies paci clips

i have always felt for the moms whos babies like the soothies paci's.  NO ONE makes a paci clip for them. until now.  by using a skinnier ribbon, you can thread it thru the holes on the paci.  problem solved.  this is just one of the many that i have so let me know if you need one.

and i do have regular paci clips and mam converters for mam babies.  $3 for any paci clip and 50c for a mam converter.  and when baby is done using paci's (or didnt take one) you can always use it for light toys to avoid the pick up game.

here is the info on my next craft show.  i will be at the hope presbyterian church holiday botuque on satruday november 12 from 10 am-4 pm.  the church's address is 5220 s 159 ave (159th & q)  this is a home based business as well as craft show.  hope to see you there.

basket full of changing pockets

here is what i have been working on for the up coming craft show.  stocking my supply of changing pockets.  a 16"x24" flannel lined pad for you to change baby on, with a pouch for 3-4 diapers & wipes attached.  when you are done changing baby just fold and roll it back up.  to see more pictures of the pocket unrolled look on my newborn page.

changing roll

the latest in my collection.  a changing roll.  diaper clutches and changing pads are nice, but what is nicer than having it all in one?  this is an original design.  pocket on the bottom is big enough to fit a wipe case and 3-4 big diapers.  the 16x24" changing pad is flannel lined, so even if you have to change a diaper on the floor, baby wont get chilled.  it all folds up with an elastic closure, making it easier for you when baby is trying to squirm away from you.  wipe case is included.  $24

Infant car seat covers

These are MADE for a Nebraska winter. Snow, WIND, COLD!!! Elastic base holds the fleece base to the car seat, while the top flap folds over and is pulled tight with a triple stitched cord and so that all wind can be kept out. Baby stays cozy and warm. Head hole works from newborn to 1 year old with a 14" zipper so that you can leave the cover on to get baby in and out of car seat. I dont keep these on hand so please email me if you want one. Having a spring baby? Try flannel for the warmer windy days.

Hooter Hiders are here!!!

So I actually got this Hooter Hider done before Thanksgiving for our Marvelous Moms Showcase but didnt have time to get it posted. I think it turned out pretty well. I'll have to make one for next time I have a baby. Now I just need to get sewing on the fabric I bought for more. The finished project measures about 42" long by 24" high.

swaddling baby

Thanks SO much B for the pic of your little guy in his blanket. My babies are past the swaddle stage, even though it lasted for a good 5 months (til I found them on their side in their crib). But I loved it SO much. They always slept SO SO well. Thru the night at 1 month (well most of the night, most of the time). I think this helps with that. They cant startle themselves awake. These are big enough to use for such a long time and if you wrap right even the squirmyist baby has a hard time getting out.
